Hearing that song back in high school was the first time I ever heard of Vegemite. All I could think was "What in the world kind of sandwich is he talking about!??"

The Scientific American did some research on this and were unable to demonstrate that happening.

I read today in the news that in central Australia near Docker River that there are 6,000 feral camels looking for water and that the authorities are going to herd them together and shoot them. That was unusual to read about feral camels, to bad they have to be shot, but they say there are health issues and they are smashing water mains.

Yeah I haven't really read up on that story.. but I do know that the camels do tend to make a mess of things.. I don't think they need to be shot though

I don't see why that should be a problem, after all there's a lot of American food that isn't fit for human consumption. Personally, I think you Aussies don't want us trying it. Afraid we might like it as well as you and then there wont be as much for you all.

Did you know there is a law stating that it is illegal to hunt camels in AZ? During WWII I believe it was, the govt tried an experiment using camels for the Calvary instead of horses but it didn't work to well so they let the camels loose in the desert. I'm not sure if they managed to survive though. I never saw any when I lived there but you never know.

Interesting, I looked that up on the internet. The US Army Corps. used camels for overland transport in the desert southwest between 1856 to 1866.
